The Trip

The storm was raging outside. Yusuke couldn't think. He could only see her beautiful face. His beautiful Anna. That beautiful smile, that smirk, those eyes that lit up a room.

She was gone in the ground for two whole weeks now. A fatal car wreck that not only killed her but also his best friend Greg. The time goes by so slowly, but yet she is in his dreams calling to him, and he can't find her. He wakes up in a cold sweat and he trys to get back to sleep but he can't.

They were planning a trip to West Africa. They loved to travel. He will go alone in her honor. He arrives on a Tuesday. Hot Dry land. He would see people play Oware in the street. Football in other places, and of course the infamous attire of the Boubou everywhere. He retired to the inn to spend the night.

The next day he awoke to a simple breakfast. He stood outside and a man appeared to him and spoke his name. He was surprised. The stranger told him to follow him to a nearby village. He said it was destiny. In his weak frame of mind Yusuke followed. They entered a Jeep and drove for miles. The landscape changed. They were no longer in town. They were in a primitive civilization. The driver let them off.

Yusuke heard the Djembe drums in the background and he was afraid. He felt a chill go up his spine.. He followed this man into a hut among many. An older man, with a smile asks him to sit down. There are many amulets and charms, and ancient writngs in here..He's sitting on a dirt floor, and he's crying. The old man speaks of love and Mawu, Lisa. The cosmogonical principle, the Mami, Wata the Legba. Oh my dear Anna she is all Yusuke desire's and the old man knows it! He helps Yusuke. Yusuke asks him how can I repay you and he tells him he already has. Yusuke didn't understand this. He humbly thanks him and turns around and leaves the hut. The man who brought him there leads him back to the Jeep and takes Yusuke back to town. The old man in the hut smiles away.

He's eating dinner outside and beside him somebody is choking. He gets up and trys to help him. He can't. He attempts cpr. It's too late. He is dead. People are crying, Yusuke starts crying. Everyone is staring at him. Do they blame him? Someone takes the body away. He lost his appetite and goes to his room.

Somewhere in another village a man is smiling. He gets out of his hut. He raises his hands to the heavens and says a chant. A bolt of lightening flashes across the sky. He makes a perfect circle with stones. Inside the circle is his guests hair that he took unbeknownst to his guest earlier, so easy! some red liquid, some bones, and his prized possession his black mamba! "Go my friend he whispers to the mamba. He kisses it on the head, the mamba so deadly is docile under the mans control---the mamba slithers away"Everything comes with a price! destiny indeed is not what we may think" and he laughs and enters his hut and goes into a trance.

Yusuke is in and out of sleep. Sweat is rolling off his body. He can't get the choking man out of my mind, the stares from the crowd, and his poor Anna. For once he wishes...... He doesn't notice the hissing, the slithering. The mamba is upon him now and it's about to strike him in the heart. His last thought was of the exchange with the man in the hut. How can I repay you?"You already have! With a shock of pain.
Yusuke was dead
The old man in the hut awaits his next victim.
