The Canary Yellow Ring
Posted by firstbeauty
Date Posted: 09/15/2007

Joanna was hungry, but she was too busy deciding on whether or not to buy that beautiful canary yellow ring in the pawn shop. She was on her lunch break, but who cares, she skipped lunch before.

She had to have it! Joanna purchased the ring and was on top of the world! All of her friends complimented her on her new purchase. Joanna felt great! She bragged about the low purchase price, what a steal!

Canary Yellow Ring

Joanna went home and found she gained her appetite back. She sat down for dinner and admired her ring. She showered and went to bed. As Joanna slept the ring started to glow.

The next few days instead of joy Joanna felt sadness coming from the ring and she didn't understand this. She took the ring off and placed it by her bed stand.

One night as Joanna was sleeping the ring started to glow and Joanna had a nightmare. A woman was being beaten and verbally attacked. Joanna woke up in a panic and saw her ring glowing. This shook Joanna up so much that she called off from work that day. She picked up the glowing ring and held on to it tightly. Joanna had to do some investigating.

Joanna went to the pawn shop to see where the ring came from and the pawn shop owner said a woman dropped it off saying she just didn't need it anymore. Joanna found this odd, because it's such a beautiful ring, why would it be given to a pawn shop?

The rain started to fall. Joanna grabbed a taxi, and headed back to her apartment. She grabbed a quick dinner, showered and got ready for bed. She placed the ring on her finger. The ring glowed a bright yellow gold. The nightmare continued. Her name was Violet. He was accusing her of cheating. He is beating her to a bloody pulp! OMG!!! It's the pawn shop owner!! She is scratching him on his arm! NO! stop! he's going to shoot her! The pawn shop owner shoots her. It's night time. He carries her body to a desolate part of town and buries her. He takes the ring off her finger. He spits on her dirt mounded grave.

Joanna wakes up and can't breathe. She knows what she has to do. Will they believe her? Will they think she is nuts? The ring is glowing. Joanna goes down to the police station. They think she is nuts. The pawn shop owner is a respectable guy! Then she mentions the name Violet, and the police officer turns white. There was a missing persons report for a woman named Violet. The police go to the pawn shop. They find the shotgun. They find the scar. Most importantly, they find Violet's body.

There is a funeral service for Violet a few weeks later. Joanna attends in private. Joanna cries for this lost soul. Joanna places the ring on Violets grave, as an act of kindness.

That night Joanna dreams of Violet. Violet is radiant and happy, and she thanks Joanna. She tells Joanna if it wasn't for her interest in the ring this murder might not have been solved.

Joanna wakes up the next morning to find the canary yellow ring on her finger. The pawn shop owner died of mysterious causes before he was sent to trial.
