Grandmother's House
Posted by TheRavenTrilogy

I never really remembered much from when I was three years old. The only things I remember were things that always happened in my grandparents home when they were still alive. The one thing that still haunts me to this day was the night my brother and I stayed overnight there.

My grandfather was the most carrying and sweet man I had ever met in my life. He never got mad at anyone and was never in a bad mood, at least that I could remember. When my brother and I spent the night at their house one night, I was three and he was seven. My grandfather was reading us a story to help us go to sleep. That one story didn’t work so we went to the den to get another, and in order to get to the den you have to go past the stairway.

When we had gotten our book we were making our way back to the living room when I saw a green glowing figure walking down the stairs. You couldn’t make out a definite shape, but I knew it was supposed to be a person.
Up until I was thirteen I thought what I saw was a dream. Now when my grandfather died and my grandmother decided to move into a retirement home, my whole family went through the house and packed what my grandmother wanted and needed. In the process we found an Ouija Board and brought it downstairs.

My cousin Steven and I wanted to play with it, so we took it downstairs and sat on the floor. My brother Andrew walked in and asked us what we were doing and we told him we were going to talk to the spirits of the house. Before he walked away I quickly mentioned about what had happened years ago with the glowing figure. He turned around and gave me a terrified look asking “You remember that?” and as I was about to answer the Ouija eye flew off the board and hit the wall chipping a tiny bit of paint of the wall. Andrew walked over and picked it up staring at it, and then brought it back over to us. He sat down and said he wanted to talk to them also.

I was the first to pose a question, and I asked; “Where are you?” and they replied “Upstairs.” Then I asked “What are you?” and for the longest time they didn’t answer. Thinking it wouldn’t answer my cousin Steven asked “Are you good or bad?” and it replied with “Hell.”

At that point we all took our hands off, except of course Andrew who looked like he physically couldn't. Steven and I then put our hands back on and asked another question. “Will you hurt us?” and it spelt out G-R-A-N-D-P-A. Next Andy looked at our grandfathers chair and the chair had a person’s body print in it. We all took our hands off of it including my brother and the Ouija eye flew across the room again and to the same spot it hit before making more of a dent. When my brother went back to retrieve the eye he looked at the peeling paint and said he saw news print from what he thought was from years ago.

When we told my mother she came in and started to peel off the wall to investigate. When she could finally see more she pulled out three different news papers from when her grandfather was a young man. My great grandfather had killed a man who had broken into his home and tried to abduct my great grandmother. Through many trials my great grandfather had pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Next when my grandmother walked in to see it, she told us all of the other stories of how the ghost of the man her father killed was thought to still lurk in the house. She told us how her father had woken up many times with bruises around his neck and choking like he was being strangled.
To this day I refuse to ever go upstairs alone in Grandmother's house.
