The Eighth Pass Posted by a.j.rookz Date Posted: 08/18/2008
Car. Broooooooom. Broooooooom. The slaaamaaaan has just made its fifth pass arrround this rrrrrrace track! the announcer boomed. Ricky Slaman better known as Slaman was in third place in the biggest race of the year. He had to win. It was all that concerned him. It didn't matter it was his anniversary.
His wife had told him just forget about it and stay home. He boomed with laughter. No way this is my life and I want this. Do you choose it over me? She cried. Yeah of course. He replied.
Sixth paaaaaaaaaaaass! the announcer boomed. Making nine passes was all it took to win. Almost there, he thought to himself. And if his wife didn't feel like making love tonight, he was sure he could find another participant. This was his life. Nothing else mattered to him. Not his wife, not his daughter. She was graduating from college today. In their phone conversation she had asked, I've worked my life for this and your not gonna be there dad? It's the biggest day of my life. She had said calmly. Please dad. You've never been there for me. Now's your chance to prove you love me. Ricky tried to hold it in, but burst out laughing. His daughter tried not to cry. She said in a gasping crying voice, I love you dad! He hung up after she said that.
Seventh paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass! the announcer boomed. This was his life. Nothing else mattered to him. Not his wife, not his daughter, not his father. His father was dying from heart problems. An operation could only begin if 5000 dollars were paid. Son I've always been there for you, please pay this for me. The poor old man whined from his hospital [soon to be death bed] bed. Well, you've always complained about life anyway dad.
Eighth paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass! the announcer boomed. Slaaaaaaaaaamaaaaaaaaaan has just made it to first plaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace! Oh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! the announcer boomed. This was his life. Nothing else mattered. Not his wife, not his daughter, not his dad. This racing was his life. He was almost at the finish line. All the blood seemed to rush to his head.
He heard the announcer screaming as he crossed the line, Eighth paaaaaaaaaaaaas! the announcer boomed. Huh? He was supposed to have won already. He loved extra laps but this was ridiculous. He must have misheard the announcer. But he was screaming so loudly. He passed the line again and the announcer screamed Eighth paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass! the announcer boomed. Oh my god he thought this is a bad dream.
His wife was at the race track. An accident had occurred. The car had a sudden malfunction, and crashed, the officer told the wife of Ricky Slaman. She was saddened at first but then began to smile.
Slaman was terrified. Since the eighth pass, he had been stuck in this loop. It had been hours. He had tried to stop the car but he had no control of his arms. And while he had new thoughts old ones seemed to pass. This was his life and nothing else mattered to him. Not his wife, not his daughter, not his dad. The officer told her that he crashed during the eighth pass. As he made the eighth pass for the billionth time it was apparent to him this was one race[life] he could not win. Visitor Rating:
