Home Alone
Posted by serpico

When I was little, I used to love to stay home alone. It made me feel mature and strong. So, three years ago, after walking home from school I was (surprise) home alone.

The sky was a cloudy gray, and none of the joggers, dog walkers, or cyclists that usually went down my street were out, for fear of rain. I didn't really care, or notice for that matter.

To me it was just another day, so I went through it like one. I locked all the doors, brought my dog inside, and began uploading the Sims 2 on my computer while listening to Rammstein (a German metal group).

Five minutes into the download and at the end of Du Hast my dog started to growl. She was a chihuahua, so if she barked I wouldn't have cared, but she was growling. So, I turned the speakers on my computer off and heard a quiet noise, like someone turning a doorknob.

Swiftly and silently I tiptoed down the hall to the front door and looked through the peephole. Outside, there was a man trying to get inside the house. I stayed very quiet and grabbed my dog, who began to run to the glass door that lead to the back, because the man had jumped the fence and gotten into the back. It was then that I opened the front door and ran down the street as fast as my legs would carry my dog and I.

Thirty seconds later I was in my friend Ariana's backyard. No one was home, so I slipped in through the back door they always left unlocked. I crawled through the house into the living room, hiding from the windows in fear he had followed me.

About two minutes later I had grabbed the house phone, which had a dead battery. I had to wait five minutes before I phoned the police, who told me to calm down and slow down... I was upset.

Fifteen minutes later the cops came, and the guy was gone. To this day he hasn't been found.
