Red Riding Cape
Posted by EddieB245

One day in a small town in the middle of the country, a little girl named Kate, decided to take a stroll through the woods. Her grandmother lived on the other side in a secluded cottage and she wanted to thank her for the brand new cape. It was comfy and warm and shined as white as snow.

"What a beautiful cape!", said Cindy from next door. "Where'd ya get it?"
"My grandma made it for me", Kate said sheepishly.

"You have an awesome grandma", Cindy said while skipping away. "See ya tomorrow in school!"

"Mother said not to leave so late, I should've listened", thought Kate. It had been an hours walk into the deep woods and Kate seemed to have lost her way. "Was it left over the trail of daisies or right opposite?", she questioned herself.

While Kate stopped to rest and find the path, she started to hear something in the distance. It was getting louder and louder. They were screams and they were coming from the town.

"The wolf!",she thought in terror. "I guess it's a good thing I'm not there." Yet Kate still feared for her mothers safety. She figured out the path and hurried to grandmas house for fear of
being seen by the wolf.

When she arrived, the lights were all off. She thought this was odd because it was only 6 pm, way too early for grandma to go to sleep. She walked inside only to find that no one was home. So Kate decided she would start dinner and have it be a surprise for granny, when she came home.

When granny never showed up Kate got worried. "What if the wolf stopped here on his way to town?", she thought. "What if granny was coming to see me and my new cape... Or coming to the town to buy food and..."

Suddenly Kate heard something outside. It was a rattling and shuffling of leaves. Kate held her breath. She ran into the bathroom and locked the door. Kate decided she would call her mom and see what was going on but when she took out her phone, there was only one bar. She sent her mom a text just in case.

Mom. I'm at granny's. There's someone or something here. I think it's the wolf.

Sent!

She heard the door open and with relief heard the peaceful hums of her sweet grandmother. She texted her mom again just to let her know it's all okay.

It's okay mom. Just granny coming home.

She came out of the bathroom and surprised her granny. Granny was so startled that she almost appeared for a second to have no idea whom Kate was.

"Granny, Thank you so much for this new cape!" She cried and hugged her grandmother. While in the warm grip of her grandmothers embrace she felt her
phone buz. Before she looked at it she said.

"My, grandma you must've been working out lately because your arms seem to have grown stronger."
"Why all the better to hug you with",
Granny grinned. She flashed perfectly white teeth, almost as white as snow.

"Grandma you're teeth are so white and sharp", said Kate. Granny didn't respond, instead she stood there with her grin, spread out from ear to ear. The little girl suddenly got an erie feeling. She got her phone out to check the message while keeping an eye
on her grandma who was still grinning. It was from her mother...

Kate. Get out of there right now. This is your grandmother. The wolf just came to town and I'm sorry sweetie but your mother didn't make it.

"She was delicious", the thing in front of her said. It licked it's lips and changed back into it's dark self.

Stories have said that when you look directly at the wolf, all you see is a shadow, the dark blurry outline of a wolf and two bright yellow eyes. Well the stories were true.

Kate, now standing face to face with the bloodthirsty demon, was frozen with fear.

"I wonder if your bones are as sweet as hers" it said. And with that, the wolf lunged towards the little girl...

Granny was sitting in the kitchen of her daughters home waiting and waiting for her little Kate to return. Finally there was banging at the door. Granny ran and opened it to greet Kate. She bent down and gave her a huge hug.

"Oh, my sweet Kate I'm so happy you made it home safe and sound."
"Me too", Kate cried. Tears rushing from her eyes, "Is mom..?"
Kate choked and swallowed air. Granny put her head down and nodded her head no.

"Let's not think", Granny said. "Let's just have some dinner."

They ate in silence, in memory of Kate's mother and all of the other people in town that the wolf murdered and devoured.

When dinner was done, Granny noticed Kate standing by the window. But what caught her attention was the cape she had on. It was crimson but the one she had given her was pure white.

"What happened to the white cape I made?", Granny asked a little upset.
"Why Granny", Kate said in a deep voice. "I'm wearing it."

"Kate?" Granny responded.
Kate turned around facing Granny. She was grinning from ear to ear.
