Scary Memory Loss

It was the winter of 1999. As for every winter vacation, my wife and daughter departed to York Shire to visit her parents and they spent a week at her parents’ house. The days were short and the nights were long. To be honest, even if I am an adult, I usually feel scared to spend the days alone at home. And therefore, I try to stay downstairs every year when they go to York Shire.
Strangely, I felt scared more than ever that year. Two days after my wife and daughter departed, an unpleasant smell started to spread in the house. I tried to determine “what it was???” I searched everywhere, but I could not find any dead rats or source of the odor in the house.
On the fourth day when I came home from work, the smell had become more horrible. I was frightened that there was an evil spirit in my house. I went to bed with these haunting thoughts and woke up next morning. The smell had become more awful, and I looked through the window, “Oh it is snowing heavily, so I need to use my snow boots which are in the loft conversion room".
Actually, it was only at this point that I remembered that we have a loft conversion room. So I climbed the stairs to the first floor then into the loft conversion room and opened the door.
My paralyzed and deaf grandmother was rotting in her bed. Her eyes were wide opened looking into my eyes directly saying "You did not even remember me or bring me my medicine". To be honest, it was only then that I remembered my grandmother lived with us and that I realized the cause of the smell. Visitor Rating:
